Playing Blackjack during the Covid Pandemic?
How has Blackjack Changed during the pandemic? Haven't played since this started, what are your observations? I've read only three to a table, face mask required and hand sanitizer provided. Not much more info out there. Have they changed pitch games (Double Deck) to face up now? Do you touch and move the chips? How do the plastic barriers work, can you still get a good view of all the cards? How safe is it? Has anyone heard of covid cases from casino? Would I look out of place with face mask + face shield? I read once that they ask for ID now, since they can't visually ID you. Any First hand info on conditions in California (north or south) or Nevada (reno, tahoe or vegas) would be great.
Report your table minimums here (COVID Edition) part 3
Part 3 in the COVID series. To try and make this list more helpful, I have added Weekend Day and Weekend Night, as those can be vastly different than during the week. I'm trying to monitor Twitter and the Vegas Message Board to get some additional information. Keep sharing all that wonderful goodness. I'd like to update the wiki to talk about what sidebets casinos have, so if you know that info, I can add it to the table comments.

*Last update 8/21 Part 1. It's getting buried so I figured we would make a new one. Part 2 Pulled additional info from here.
Yesterday I was at Peppermill Casino in Reno after a class for work I took near Tahoe. I’ve been playing online “seriously” since a little before COVID started, using some sites like “Red Chip Poker” to learn the ropes. So anyways, I sat down at the table yesterday ($1/2)nervous as all fucking hell. I worse a jacket, and I was hot, because I knew it would hide my jittery ness with my hands and arms from nerves. I noticed during live, idk if it’s nerves, but I had a real hard time keeping track of pot actual sizes so I did it merely off guesses. I noticed too, hopefully with nerves, calculating SP pot sizes/ bet sizes/ etc...was harder. I’m fairly good with math, but I was wondering if the people here think it is nerves or how do you do it? I also noticed the $1/$2 was relatively soft. I played for about 1.5-2hrs, started with $250, left with $435, also tipped/ 1 beer to calm my self a total of $40, for a win of ~$475. Ive definitely learned a lot, I made a few mistakes as far as understanding how to do things at an actual casino. Overall, I did have fun, I guess ultimate question I have is, for a beginner LIVE player, what does the reddit community see as something beginner LIVE players do as mistakes? I never took too long to act, probably max it took me to act was maybe 20 seconds on 1 hand. A reg even made a comment that “as much action as you give kid, take your time”. I was playing a little looser than I do online, only because I was making the adjustment from full-ring to the 6 max table I was at. 4/6 of us the dealers knew by first name. The regs were intimidating too, in your casino are they usually good? Or they are just the people who just usually like to play, not necessarily good? Idk, LIVE was nerve wrecking as hell for me.
Since I was able to find so much helpful information on this subreddit, I thought I would pay back the favor and talk about my experience. Maybe it helps someone freaking out reading internet medical advise at 2am like me. About six years ago I found that I had a small gallstone after I had a really severe attack while driving. I was unsure about what happen with describe the pain to my doctor and an ultrasound confirmed that I had a small gallstone. At that time I decided to try to go the natural route: flushes, went vegetarian, no drinking, clean living. The symptoms went away and I kind of forgot about it over time. I guess that whole time I sort of felt an uncomfortable but non painful sensation under my lower right rib. I also thought maybe it was psychosomatic. Well life happens- I’m just not wired to be that kind of guy. I don’t eat like crap for the most part but I just can’t do vegan for the rest of my life. A couple of months ago, post Covid, I was eating like crap- frequent delivery food, drinking at home. After a particularly bad meal which was bad even for me (double cheeseburger) the next morning I felt an elephant standing on my abdomen and some lower right pain too. Nothing helped and I almost went to the emergency room if was so bad. I thought I’d dry to make myself throw up to release some pressure and it helped quiet a bit. That drove me to seek a GI, ultrasound showed multiple stones but no measurements were able to be taken. I interviewed a few surgeons and found a good one. We set up for laparoscopic surgery about a month later. I chose a long delay so that I could diet and exercise and chill out my gall bladder. I only had one mild attack in that time (interestingly got some pale stool from that, reinforcing my decision). The night before I thought I ate pretty well, lean fresh chicken sausage, veggies, brown rice. Maybe the chicken was a little bit spicy- but the surgeon commented that the gallbladder was inflamed. I went to outpatient surgery at 6:30am, started surgery at 8 and was awake before 9:30. They found 2 big stones and few smaller ones. In the fluorescent test there was one tiny one that had to be left behind because it went missing. He told my wife it was really small and should pass. I’ll learn more during my follow up. I’m a really nervous person and was freaking out so much before this, fearing for the worst. Here’s all the stuff I worried about: IV - they gave a small numbing shot before that barely hurt. The iv didn’t hurt at all and didn’t bother me one bit. That was a nice surprise. Anxiety- I’ve passed out just from giving blood I get so nervous. They gave me some anti anxiety that felt like I had a nice drinking buzz. It kicked in a few min. Everything is a blur after. I kinda remember them telling me they were putting on a mask. Next thing you know I’m awake and kinda groggy. Throat was mildly sore. Still mildly hurts 8 hours later but no big deal. It was hard to take some sips of water at first. They gave me water and graham crackers- really hit the spot. I was a little nauseous for several hours but as I tried little bursts of walking it helped. I tried to eat some broth around lunch but got sick feeling sitting up. It’s like a really heavy nausea feeling but after laying down better in a few minutes. As the day progresses it went away. Pain: I had a couple shoulder pain incidents from the gas. I have both charcoal and gasx. Earlier I felt a lot of abdominal pressure and I felt the gasx did a good job of that. As I walk around I’m able to burp here and there. The belly button incision site hurts the worst. I’m gonna do the narcotics for 2 days. It’s like a lot of people say- like you did too many crunches at the gym. I alternate with ice pack and heat pad and so far so good. Th biggest surprise- I couldn’t urinate. I almost passed out standing up earlier in the day. It took me 4 attempts and 8 hours later to just get things going. Water flowing, towel in my abdomen, leaning forward helped. That made me nervous but given all the medication I understand. I know day 2 is worse pain but honestly I’ve felt much worse at 6am after having a bender in sleazy Reno casinos. Severe hangover is worse than this. In hindsight I should have eaten even more bland like a boiled chicken breast or something because perhaps that’s why it was inflamed? And I thought I’d have some kind of ptsd thinking about how an organ was ripped out of me. If I can do it, so can you. Great advice from others and the worst part was waiting so long to do this and all the worrying I do.
6/17 Edit: Great info guys. Keep it coming! If something changes, please let me know. I reached out to the mods asking about putting together a post to collect minimums for craps tables in Vegas and other places. If this post gains traction, it may get a sticky. It may also help cut down on the amount of posts asking for this info. I'll try to keep the body of the post updated. If information is correct, let me know. Update 6/18 - Nevada Gaming Board announced masks required at table games in Nevada. I haven't heard that this is being enforced yet. 6/30: Keep reporting, especially any of you heading to Vegas. We would love to hear what the mins are on the strip Let me know what casino, day or night and the minimums:

Mayor Schieve, First, I want to thank you for taking the COVID-19 outbreak seriously. A lot of misinformation has been going around, and it is very easy to downplay the severity of this event. I also appreciate your message to not panic. Too many residents around the world are giving in to their baser instincts, and this is wreaking havoc on communities - including our own. Strong, steady leadership is needed now. With that being said, many of us in the community are deeply confused by the emergency order declared today in your press conference. You followed-up a short while later attempting to clarify your remarks. Unfortunately, this only added to the confusion. In your press conference, you loosely defined what constitutes an “essential business”. You listed the following: grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and healthcare offices. This seemed somewhat concrete, but the specificity remained low. Throughout the press conference, you named “bars, restaurants, and gyms” frequently as “non-essential”, but you left out a good portion of Reno’s job markets (e.g retail, manufacturing and warehousing, etc). As a manager of a warehouse, this left me confused and deeply concerned. I am still unsure of what I am to report to our corporate team located out of state. Now, in your follow-up, you attempted to clarify what a “non-essential” business entails. In it, you said “I know there was some confusion around the announcement, so I just want to clarify that these are businesses where groups of people tend to congregate.” This statement transforms a semi-clear statement (anything that isn’t a grocery store, pharmacy, gas station, or healthcare office), into a completely obfuscated one. What constitutes “groups of people”? Does that include retail stores? Warehouses? Manufacturing plants? Tax offices? Additionally, you “clarified” (read: backtracked) on your statement regarding the closure of casinos. In your clarification, you state that “casino gaming is still allowed to operate following the directions of the Nevada Gaming Control Board...” This is a highly confusing decision. Casinos are designed to disorient its visitors in a way to keep them there. Slot machines and gaming tables are spaced far closer together than the six foot minimum the CDC recommends. Players touch chips, cards, buttons, levers, wheels, and dice that have been touched by thousands of others. How are you closing small businesses that may see 10 customers a day and still allow mega resorts to remain open with hundreds, if not thousands, of occupants? Large warehouses often have thousands of employees on shift. Are they allowed to continue operating and, if so, why? Finally, you said you spoke to the Mayor of Sparks and claimed he was supportive. However, Sparks businesses are now left wondering what happens to them. I understand that you are not the mayor of Sparks. Nonetheless, I call on you to urge the City of Sparks to give clarity to this situation. There are over 100,000 residents in Sparks and they deserve an answer. Likewise, the tens of thousands of businesses in Reno would like clarification. Again, I want to thank you for making the tough decisions during this unprecedented time. This can’t be easy for anyone in local government. Nonetheless, I ask that your office provide specific, timely guidelines on which businesses must close as well as reasoned justification. The economic and social implications are simply enormous, and there is zero room for ambiguity. Sincerely, Lifetime Reno Resident
